Summer Reading starts May 19th!

Fizz Boom ReadFizz, Boom, Read! Birth – 6th Grade. Pickup a new Reading Log every Monday. Bring your completed Reading Log to the library and receive great coupons and free books.

Spark A ReactionSpark A Reaction! 7th – 12th Grade. Get your card punched for for every book you read. Choose a coupon after getting five punches. Get 25 punches and turn it in for a free book!

Summer Reading ElementsLiterary Elements! For adults. Pick up a bookmark/prize entry each week. Fill out a short review on the back of the bookmark and return it by the following week to be entered into the weekly prize drawing! The final grand prize drawing on August 1st will be for an iPad Mini!

Mondays in April at 10:30am. Crafts for Toddlers & Preschoolers. We may get messy so dress accordingly.

May 2nd at 10:30am. Rockin’ to the Rhymes! Music & movement for toddlers and preschoolers!

May 13th at 6:30pm. Reading in Motion (A Sensory Friendly Story Time) We read, we sing, we use puppets and we rarely sit still!  This Story Time is designed to engage children ages 2-8 through movement, music, stories and play.  It is open to all children!  If your child has difficulty sitting through one of the library’s other story times, this inclusive program is just what you are looking for!  Please feel free to call 402-597-2051 if you’d like to tell us about your child.   Registration required! 

Story Times

Please join us for our Story Times filled with age-appropriate stories, songs, and finger plays! Check the calendar for dates and details. Please provide advance notice if you want to bring a large group to a Story Time. Always alert staff to any food allergies before allowing children to participate in the programs. When Papillion/LaVista Schools are closed due to inclement weather, programming will not be held.

  • Toddler Story Time: M, TU  & W 9:45am, TU 10:30am. Ages 12 months to 3 years.
  • Story Time: W, TH & F 10:30am. All Ages Welcome.
  • Baby Play: TU & TH 9:15am. Birth to 12 months.
  • Evening Story Time: TH 6:30pm. All Ages Welcome.

Adult Events

April 25th from 7-10 pm. The Papillion Library Foundation will host Wine and Sign – Look to the Future at Sump Memorial Library . This event will feature local Nebraska authors along with a silent auction of donated items including autographed books. Wine and refreshments will be provided. Dance music starts at 8pm with Blues Agent. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 a couple and are available at the library front desk or from a Foundation board member. Papillion Library Foundation board members are Harlan Metschke, Bob Frederick, and Jim Berg, Rebecca Crofoot, Marian Fricke and Matt Miller. Only 200 tickets will be sold so get yours today! A fun evening for a good cause!

April 26th from 1-4pm. Learn What and When to Plant from a Master Gardener. Hear the do’s and don’ts of spring planting while watching a seed demonstration and take this opportunity to ask your gardening or lawn care questions.

April 29th at 7pm. Indulge that spring fever with a program on Fairy Gardens, the newest craze in miniature and container gardening.

May 6th at 6:30pm. Bring you mother, sister, daughter, or friend and Arm Knit An Infinity Scarf to take home! Just bring 2 skeins of super bulky weight yarn for each scarf. (Lyon’s brand Super Bulky from Walmart works well.) Register by calling (402)597-2040.

May 8th from 7-8pm. Listen to HERstory as two women from the past share the stories of their struggles to overcome timeless obstacles during In Memory of Momma – A Mother’s Day Tribute.

May 15th from 10-11am. Attend Fun with Friends, a program for adults with special needs featuring exciting learning opportunities, music, and crafts. Adults must be accompanied by a caregiver. May 20th from 6-8pm. Discover Advanced Techniques for Using LinkedIn with Mike Bitter. Discover how to form connections for yourself and your business as you master “The World’s Largest Professional Network.” Register here.

May 20th from 7-8pm. Join us for the Forever Young Book Club, a book club for adults who enjoy young adult literature, as we discuss Bruiser by Neal Shusterman. Extra copies of the book can be picked up at the library front desk.

Book Clubs

Brown Baggers meets every 3rd Wednesday at 12:00pm in Meeting Room 50.

The April book is Making Masterpiece: 25 Years Behind the Scenes at Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! on PBS by Rebecca Eaton. Rebecca Eaton is the executive producer of the PBS Masterpiece television series.

The May book is Harriet Beecher Stowe: A Spiritual Life by Nancy Koester. Harriet Beecher Stowe is the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. A book which converted thousands to the anti-slavery movement.

Bonding With Bindings meets every 2nd Thursday at 7:00pm in Meeting Room 50.

Club Knit

Club Knit meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. (Beginners and experienced knitters get together to knit.)
